Get to Know Us

Limelight Theatricals is a Youth Musical Theatre Group for 14-19 year olds. We are based in Thurles and are open to participants from all the surrounding areas. We were set up by Emily Matthews and Therese Maher in 2023 for the purpose of putting on a musical theatre production every summer.

Meet the Team

Emily Matthews

Emily graduated with honours with a degree in Drama from Wolverhampton in 2016. Since graduating she has been working professionally in theatre. With over 10 years teaching experience, she works with all ages and abilities.

Therese Maher

Therese has been running the Dwan Academy Performing Arts School since 2010. She holds a BA in Music, a postgrad in Stage Management, and MFA in Performance, and is a PhD candidate with the Drama and Theatre programme at Mary Immaculate College. As well as directing and choreographing musicals around the country she works as a peripatetic music teacher.

In early 2025 she set up First Act Theatrical Training, which will be launching its first full time vocational Musical Theatre course in September 2025.

Her passion is working with young children and teenagers and guiding them through the process of creating a show, from the on stage performances to the back stage creative and technical aspects.

✨ And finally, back by popular demand, our Chorus Mistress Muireann ✨

Muireann studied Performing Arts specialising in Voice at the Irish World Academy of Music and Dancing.

She currently works as a vocal coach at Dwan Academy Performing Arts School and Montfort College.

Muireann is also a long standing member of Tipperary Musical Society, performing credits include Chava in Fiddler on Roof.

She has been Chorus Mistress for our previous productions of Fame Jr and The Addams Family.

Therese studied Music at Mary Immaculate College, after which she attained a diploma in Event Management from Limerick Business School, and postgrad in Stage Management from Royal Welsh College.
She has worked as a professional Stage and Production manager all over the world.
Therese also hold an MFA in Performance from American College Dublin. She runs Dwan Academy Performing Arts School.

Directing and choreography credits include West Side Story, Miss Saigon, Footloose, Les Miserable, The Addams Family, and Beauty and the Beast.

✨ Introducing our Director for Chitty Chitty Bang Bang ✨

Sean began performing at a young age, and went on to study Performing Arts at the Institute of Technology, Sligo.

Performing credits include Fidel in Witches of Eastwick, and George in The Wedding Singer for Ennis Musical Society, and Reecy in Our House for Muse Productions.

Sean recently directed Seussical for UL Musical Society.

Our spring cabaret is a fundraising concert for annual summer show!! Registration will open again after the cabaret for the summer ⭐️

🌟 Congratulations to our Artistic Director Therese on the launch of a new Musical Theatre training facility in Thurles.

First Act Theatrical Training will provide a one year full time vocational course for post Leaving Cert students wishing to begin their professional Musical Theatre training.

Core subjects of Dance, Acting, and Voice will be supplemented with education in production, theatre history, and music theory. Guest sessions will also be provided in fitness, nutrition and marketing for performers, as well as recording voice reels and stage combat.

A modified version of this course is also available for Transition Year students.
